Who’s PLaying at Tanswells?
THE BEECHWORLD BOXING DAY INVASION IS IMMINENT.
Strange lights in the sky… mysterious sounds from the hills… and now the invasion fleet descends on Tanswells Hotel!
2 Piece Feed — Initial landing and random early probing (OG Grindhouse duo play Grindhouse)
The Rarebit Fiends — Sustained countrified cheese based psychic sound waves (plus probes).
My Left Boot — Final planet-shaking sonic takeover and more unnecessary probing.
Resistance is futile. Report to the Tanswells Back Room Outpost at spacetime 8pm for compulsory audio assimilation.
One of our favourite songwriters returns to the pub: Benny Williams!
This is becoming a tradition! Australian legend Van Walker is coming back to the pub for another New Year's Eve, this time with his rollicking Irish band Ferriters.
Named after the folk hero Pierce Ferriter (see song: The King of the Irish Rebels), the band have wowed crowds locally and became popular among Irish and non-Irish festivals alike, winning over audiences with their mix of Aussie and Irish folk/rebel music.
The first Friday of each month means Torpedoes! Old-school blues and rock ‘n’ roll!
Melbourne-based musician Justin Bernasconi is one of Australia’s finest guitarists. The consummate instrumentalist delivers mesmerising performances. His acclaimed solo albums "Winter Pick" and "Barefoot Wonderland" showcased the singer-songwriter’s range of influences from classical to Americana. His latest release "Sleeping Like A Maniac" revisits his UK roots, in a collection he calls "folk Impressionism."
A festival favourite, Bernasconi draws from a deep well of influences. His compositions are informed by global, classical and indie folk traditions. Moods segue from folk balladry to rhythmic abstract urgency. Think of The Tallest Man On Earth, Erik Satie, John Fahey and Richard Thompson.
FREE IN THE FRONT BAR!
Our long-running monthly OPEN MIC returns! Come along and have a sing and/or strum.
Melbourne cosmic-country rocker Ben Mastwyk and Arizona’s desert honky-tonk princess Brea Burns unite for a high-voltage double headline show. Mastwyk, gold-suited and rhinestoned, leads his band The Millions through bold sonic adventures where songs burst into swaggering, psychedelic barroom gems. Burns, with fiery presence, vintage flair, and a velvet voice, embodies the spirit of classic country with wit, heartache, and electrifying showmanship.
Together they bridge continents and traditions, delivering an unforgettable night of cosmic energy, honky-tonk fire, and timeless country soul that will leave audiences dancing, cheering, and hungry for more.
Amylou is a local singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, performer and music creator who spent years in Melbourne and the U.K., crafting infectious melancholy in folk, indie pop and electronica.
She is currently putting years of songwriting experience to the test with 'Fly', a collection of synth pop/electronica songs bound to get you ruminating on your life through the lens of her own.
Free in the front bar at Tanswells: super twangy and extra cuddly ... It’s BAD KNEES!
Armed with a 3-string cigar box guitar, bottleneck slide, trusty 6-string and shed-built foot drums, Jungle Jim Smith is a one-man-electric-boogie-band based in the rolling hills of South Gippsland Prom Country.
Delivering high-energy performances since 2021, Jungle Jim’s blend of up-tempo garage grooves and stompin’ blues sits somewhere between RL Burnside, ZZ Top and The Black Keys. Delivered with a grin, Jim’s songs are charged with infectious hooks and a riffage finesse, with vocals that conjure up shades of Elvis and Morrison crooning over primal percussive riffs and rhythms.
Australia’s favourite beer-fuelled legends Cosmic Psychos are back with their twelfth studio album, I Really Like Beer, on Friday November 7, and they’re hitting the road the very same day. No mucking around.
To mark the album release, the band is heading off on their most ridiculous tour yet. 42 regional dates right across Australia, kicking off in early November and charging into 2025. RSLs, pubs, halls and hard-earned beers with the local townsfolk.
The band will be joined on drums by none other than Dan Peters (Mudhoney, Nirvana) for the first leg and that young whippersnapper BC from Dune Rats on the second stretch. One tour. Two drummers. No downtime. We dare you to find a more extensive tour in Aussie Rock history.
Tickets are $50 + booking fee in advance, or $60 at the door: https://events.humanitix.com/cosmic-psychos-beechworth
Blood harmonies are the centre of Irish twins The Ocelots sound - imperfections of a voice breaking or a tempo shifting. Compelling indie-folk with open tuned guitar, clawhammer banjo and harmonica, the twin brothers blend absurdity, sincerity and hilarious stage banter into an array of literature-inspired musings.
Returning to Australia for their third tour, after runs in 2019 and 2020, The Ocelots are playing songs from their new album Everything, When Said Slowly, and appearing at Woodford Folk Festival (QLD), Port Fairy Folk Festival (VIC), Blue Mountains Music Festival (NSW), Nannup Music Festival (WA) and venue shows across the country from January to March 2026
Years into her career, Anika Ostendorf – the voice and producer behind Melbourne-via-Germany-via-Detroit indie-rock/alt-pop outfit HACHIKU – embraces a new level of vulnerability on their second album, The Joys of Being Pure at Heart. The album’s marks a journey toward self-compassion, openness, and embracing life’s ups and downs featuring members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and harpist Mary Lattimore.
Hachiku first entered the global scene via Courtney Barnett's Australian queer-run label Milk! Records where Ostendorf found a home in its community-minded ethos and DIY values. Through the release of their self-recorded and self-mixed EPs Hachiku (2017) and 99 Dreams (2020) and critically acclaimed debut LP I’ll Probably Be Asleep (2020), Hachiku has steadily built a loyal global fan base hinged on catchy melodies, shimmering walls of sound, and their praised live performances.
They have seen consistent support and acclaim from NPR’s All Songs Considered, Bandcamp, DIY Magazine, Clash Magazine and NME and are continuously invited to support household names around the UK, Europe, U.S. and Australia including Courtney Barnett, The Breeders, José González and Snail Mail.
Naarm’s Great Falls have been steadily carving out a space in the local scene with their evocative, guitar-driven sound. 2023 saw Great Falls release their debut 12" EP 'Negatives into Positives', a catalogue exploring the complexities of relationships and finding the path to better understanding them, to high praise.
Since then, they have racked up one heck of a list of Triple J plays, online and printed press kudos. Think jangly overdriven guitars, slinky bass-lines and songs that are steeped with a sickly sweet nostalgia.
The Beechworth gig will feature a supporting set from Great Falls’ own lead guitarist Liam Moran aka Sitting Giant, who will be debuting his new solo music project.
Under the vibrant Berlin sky, fate brought Brea and Dom together at an Open Stage in 2019. Drawn to each other’s artistry, a songwriting session soon sparked the beginning of Flora Falls. Since then, this dynamic duo has been on a journey to shape their unique sound, releasing two EPs that have garnered millions of streams.
Touring extensively across Europe, they’ve shared stages with international artists like Ondara (USA), Kim Churchill (AUS), and The Wellermen (UK/USA) in Berlin, while also supporting Folk Road Show (NL) and The Bland (SE) on their European tours. Their music is an intimate embrace—rich in emotion, laced with humour, and inviting listeners into a space of vulnerability and authenticity.
Now, Flora Falls is unveiling a string of singles leading up to their highly anticipated debut album, set for release early 2026.
Acclaimed folk troubadour Zac Henderson rolls through town on his 'Change the Tides' album tour. Known for his poetic lyricism, rich vocals, and effortless storytelling, Zac brings his new record to life with a captivating live set that drifts between heartfelt reflection and spirited acoustic energy.
ThornBird is the electrifying solo project of Vikki Thorn. With a voice honed over three decades at the heart of The Waifs, Australia’s iconic globally touring folk-rock band, ThornBird emerges as a bold new force on the global stage. Her debut self-titled solo album (2022) drew critical acclaim, earning nominations for both an ARIA and a WAMI Award for Best Blues and Roots Album.
ThornBird draws on a life lived traversing the wild geographical landscapes of Utah and Western Australia. Intertwining Americana grooves with blues harp and a folk storytelling ethos, she presents a sound that is uniquely Australian. Channelling stories of strong women, solitude, untamed places, love, loss and life lessons into every song. ThornBird is not just a Waif out on her own; she’s a global artist in full flight.
